Prepare for Learning
Whether you are new to online learning or a seasoned pro, being in the right frame of mind and taking care of yourself are critical for sustained success!
Developing a Growth Mindset and Academic Persistence
- “Dr. Dweck found that people’s theories about their own intelligence had a significant impact on their motivation, effort, and approach to challenges. Those who believe their abilities are malleable are more likely to embrace challenges and persist despite failure.” (Mindsetworks.com)

Taking Care of Yourself
Appropriate self-care can help you be a more successful learner in several ways:
- Sleep - sleeping sufficiently improves your mood and emotional state, helps you maintain energy levels, and is critical for memory consolidation
- Eat healthily and stay hydrated - eating well and staying hydrated help maintain energy and proper brain function
- Exercise - regularly exercising (health permitting) improves moods, energy levels, and learning!
- Relax - engaging in regular relaxation helps you maintain energy levels and may help combat procrastination so plan some into your schedule
- Connect - Remember to stay connected spiritually through prayer, scripture study, and service, and socially while taking precautions to avoid spreading illness. You can connect with others online through active social media participation and other communication tools. This will help your mood and help your education as you participate in study groups and teach others what you are learning.
