Develop Your Plan

What to Learn

  • Work with your professors and fellow classmates to make sure you understand what you are supposed to be doing
  • If you can’t find the resources you need, ask for help!

When to Learn

  • Some of your classes will continue to meet at the usual time (just remotely)
  • Other classes will be posting material for you to learn from and review on your own time. It will be helpful to create a schedule of when you will work on your course (including studying for exams and completing assignments)

Where to Learn

  • Find a place that can be your go-to place to study. Your bed, the kitchen table, and other places that you do non-academic things (like sleeping and eating) are less than ideal. So find a place where you can get working and
  • Know where and how to access your course materials (if you can’t find what you need, ask for help)

How to Learn

  • Actively participate in class (if you have live sessions).
    • Ask and answer questions as appropriate
    • Taking notes in your own words (especially taking notes by hand) has shown to improve retention
    • Participate in in-class polling
    • Stay on task when attending class (even virtually. In fact, it’s even more important then!)
  • Study in study groups (you can get together via Zoom)
  • Space your study and practice over time (rather than cramming)
  • Engage in retrieval practice, things like self-testing, quizzing each other in a study group, using flashcards, etc.
  • Engage in deep processing of what you are learning
