Develop Your Plan
What to Learn
- Work with your professors and fellow classmates to make sure you understand what you are supposed to be doing
- If you can’t find the resources you need, ask for help!
When to Learn
- Some of your classes will continue to meet at the usual time (just remotely)
- Other classes will be posting material for you to learn from and review on your own time. It will be helpful to create a schedule of when you will work on your course (including studying for exams and completing assignments)
Where to Learn
- Find a place that can be your go-to place to study. Your bed, the kitchen table, and other places that you do non-academic things (like sleeping and eating) are less than ideal. So find a place where you can get working and
- Know where and how to access your course materials (if you can’t find what you need, ask for help)
How to Learn
- Actively participate in class (if you have live sessions).
- Ask and answer questions as appropriate
- Taking notes in your own words (especially taking notes by hand) has shown to improve retention
- Participate in in-class polling
- Stay on task when attending class (even virtually. In fact, it’s even more important then!)
- Study in study groups (you can get together via Zoom)
- Space your study and practice over time (rather than cramming)
- Engage in retrieval practice, things like self-testing, quizzing each other in a study group, using flashcards, etc.
- Engage in deep processing of what you are learning
